BIOGRAPHY

The Dutch conductor and  composer Tjalling Wijnstra started his musical career as an accordionist. He started his studies at the Academy of Music In Groningen with the renowned  Egbert Spelde and after having graduated he continued his
studies at the Royal Coservatoire of Kopenhagen with the Danish accordeon player Mogens Ellegaard.

Wijnstra then started studying the profession of orchestral conducting with the teachers Lucas Vis and Joop van Zon and finished his
studies at the Sweelinck Conservatoire in Amsterdam under Roland Kieft.Starting in 2005 up untill 2011 Wijnstra was leader of the and Kapelmeister  at Opera Zuid in Maastricht. During that time he assisted in all of the opera prouctions of Opera Zuid
joined with the Brabants Orchestra and the Limburg Symphony Orchestra.  Wijnstra conducted performances of
Don Giovanni by Mozart, De Parelvissers and Carmen by Bizet,
Die Lustige Witwe by Lehar, Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini,
Mavra by Strawinsky and Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss.

Wijnstra is Artistic leader  of the  Opera Company Noord which
has been established by himself. In comming seasons Opera
Company Noord will be performing in the northern part of the
Netherlands.

As a composer Wijnstra is involved in several
projects: in november 2012 one of his works for Symphony
orchestra  will see its premiere. This work has been written for
the Frisian Chamber Orchestra. He has also started writing
Music for a serious game in assignment  for Grendel
Productions in Leeuwarden. 

This year he directed La Traviata from Verdi at Opera Spanga.
In July / AugustIn 2018 he directs in Spanga the Aida of Verdi.
This production will travels in september 2018 to Malta, being part of the "Leeuwarden Cultural Capital 2018" In Spanga plays Philharmonie Noord, at Malta will play the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.
